Finding time to read everything that is on my Summer bookshelf has been interesting. The kids are home, we’re always running around and going places so there isn’t much time left for reading. Let me rephrase that. I find that after the kids go to bed, there are actually a few hours I have to myself and can read my favorite books. Also, when my husband is home sometimes I can sneak out and head to my favorite reading spot at the lake.
I’m a sucker for a good book, from romance to thrillers I can usually find something that I want to read. This Summer, I’ve devoured about 30 books! I told you how much I love to read and my latest read is Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. I have to say that this is without a doubt the darkest and twistiest book that I’ve read this year. Knot in your stomach and shaking hands dark, with a plot that stays with you even after you’ve finished. Angst-filled, horrifying, and breath-stealing are just a few words that I’d use to describe the psychological thriller from B.A. Paris.
B.A. Paris is an amazing storyteller and weaves the past and the present together so that you know what has happened between Jack, Grace, and Millie. Paris builds up the suspense, then brings it up just a little more until you can’t decide if it’s better to turn the page quickly or wait until your heart stops racing. Brilliant writing and I have to say that it hit the mark of psychological thriller because I thought about this book after I finished reading for the day and before I would pick it back up. It felt like the more you got into the characters’ heads, the more they were inside of yours.
This is not an emotionally easy read and I would suggest making sure you’re in the frame of mind to appreciate a twisted, psychological thriller. That way you will get the most enjoyment out of your reading time. It really is an emotionally gripping story and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire novel.
