Hospital Survival Kit for New Moms DIY Gift

Hospital Survival Kit for New Moms

New Mom Hospital Survival Kit DIY Gift

My best friend just had a baby! I’m so excited for her – this is her third child, as she has 2 little girls at home. I was trying to find something useful to give her to help during her hospital stay after the baby is born. There are so many wonderful things to chose from that I had to work hard to narrow down my purchases. You know, sometimes I go a little overboard.

I went to Target with my list of things I needed for the hospital survival kit. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was going to get, but because I’ve spent so much time in the hospital over the last few years, I had an idea or two.

First, I went to the travel section of the store and grabbed some shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. Then, I remembered that the last few times I was in the hospital, hubby bought me Tresemme’ dry shampoo so I grabbed one of those too.

I picked up some Vaseline chapstick and makeup wipes. Then I went to the grocery section and found this awesome display on the end of the aisle. It had $1 packages of snack foods so I grabbed Nature Valley Granola bars, Quaker Chewy Bars, Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies, and Rice Krispie treats.

Then, I picked up a large bag of M&M’s. I threw a pack of Altoids smalls in the cart too and went to look for a bag. I found the bag for only 99 cents and since we didn’t know if it was a boy or a girl yet, I thought it was perfect.

This is where you could put a tag on the front for “Hospital Survival Kit,” but I chose not to put a tag on the front so she could re-use the bag again if she wanted. I think it’s kind of pretty. I usually have tissue paper on hand, but most of the time I only have white. When I got the call this morning that it was a boy, I went back into my wrapping paper storage bin and grabbed some blue paper. Finally, I headed to the hospital to go meet the new baby and check on Mommy.

Mommy and baby were doing great when I got there and we were able to visit for a few minutes. She looked so happy and was enjoying just snuggling with the new baby. Mine are still young, but I remember the times when they were that little. Sometimes you forget until you see a new baby.

I was excited to see which items she liked and thought she would use. She loved the chocolate and the Rice Krispie Treats and she immediately had me open the Vaseline chapstick so she could use it. I’m happy that I was able to give her items she could use now and not have to wait.

Don’t tell my hubby, but I may start spending more time on there looking for new ideas!
