Mattress Topper Options – Gel Memory Foam, Feathers, Down

Mattress Toppers seem to be all the rage over the last few years.  I purchased a new mattress a few years ago and it came with a pillow top, so I’ve never actually tried a Mattress Topper.

I’ve done some research on different mattress toppers and I found some information you may find useful.

You have options when it comes to materials that are used to make a mattress topper. Are you looking for a memory foam mattress topper, or maybe a gel mattress topper would be a better fit. Do you go with down (feathers) or man-made materials? These are all questions to ask yourself. If you want support, you may want to go with the memory foam, since it won’t move around as much.

Gel memory foam is a new version of memory foam. Still durable, comfortable and resists motion transfer. Gel beads are infused into the memory foam, which promote air movement. The gel memory foam also provides a firm, yet comfortable sleep surface.

Feathers are soft and fluffy, but if you have allergies and/or asthma like me, that may not be an option. Feathers are more resilient than down when it comes to a mattress topper, although feathers clump more often and need to be shaken in the topper.

Down may be an option for you, but may get matted down rather quickly because that is the nature of down.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, there are lots of factors to take into account when buying a mattress topper. Price, allergens, comfort, and durability.
