My best friend invited us to a Trunk or Treat at a local church last night. We’ve never celebrated Halloween with the kids, mostly because they were always too young to really enjoy dressing up. Once we told the kids that we could go with their friends, they were super-excited to go.
Then I had to figure out costumes. I’m a big fan of garage sales and consignment stores (if you haven’t already figured that out). I found the Tinkerbell costume at a garage sale a few months ago. Luckily, my Mother-in-law took it in a little because it was huge on my daughter. I found a magic wand and green fairy wings at the Dollar Store. Total cost for her outfit was $3.14. Moving on to my son, he absolutely loves Lightning McQueen from the movie CARS. I found this Lightning McQueen Pit Crew costume at a consignments store. It was new, with tags and marked down 50% so I grabbed it. Total cost of his outfit $4.99.
I had to get the pumpkin buckets because that’s what I had when I was a child, and you know I’m just reliving my youth. 😉
We met at my friends house to get the kids ready to go to the Church for Trunk or Treat. When we got there the cars were setting up, so the kids played for a little while and we went inside the social hall. Inside there were arts and crafts for the kids and snacks. The kids made Autumn wreaths, as well as colored bags and foam crosses. Out back the kids got to paint paper pumpkins that were attached to the fence. They had so much fun painting the different colors on their pumpkins.
The best part though, was watching the children walk up to each car to say trick or treat. They got the hang of it after the second car and we got to look at how well everyone decorated their trunks for the event. The kids were so excited to look in their plastic pumpkins and see how much candy (crackers/glow sticks/everything else) they received.
It was so much fun, that we’re going to try it tonight at our church.
Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone. xo
