Were you following along while I was in Los Angeles for the Avengers Event? If you were then you saw all the fun we had interviewing the cast of Avengers: Age of Ultron! This was actually my very last interview before I headed out to catch my plane back to Florida. As soon as we took the final group picture, I was in the van and heading to LAX for my flight home.

I was worried I’d have to miss this interview, but I’m so glad that I had the chance to sit down and ask them questions. I have to say that Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth were a blast to interview and that they played off of each other the entire time! I’ll be sharing the interesting answers to their questions in this post. So, what are you waiting for? Read on (and enjoy!).

Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth had so much energy and were having fun from the moment they walked into the room. Laughing, joking, even deciding who was Chris #1 and who was Chris #2. I still don’t know who won that debate. I’ll leave that up to you. 😉

In case you’ve been buried under a rock for the past few years, I’ll let you in on the secret that Chris Evans portrays Captain America and Chris Hemsworth portrays Thor in Avengers: Age of Ultron and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Chris Evans last year, during his press trip for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. You can read that interview here. This interview was a little different in that we were interviewing both Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth together and not individually. I really think that this made for a more honest interview in that you could see the bond that these two men have established throughout years of working together in Marvel films.

What was your favorite fight scene in the movie?

My favorite one [scene] I wasn’t even in, the Hulk Buster and the Hulk. That’s my favorite. That’s a long fight scene, too. It keeps going. -Chris Evans

I haven’t seen that scene. I haven’t seen the movie. But from the trailer what looked cool was the kind of tie in shot between all of us. And at the very beginning of the film where it cuts from each of our individual fights. It looks like it’s one big tracking shot. That blew my mind as to how they even did that. -Chris Hemsworth

Do you guys find something that you discover about your characters each time you put on the costume? Or do you feel like you really know the character by now?

You know the character but you hope there’s always new challenges. You hope as an actor there is always a new hurdle to jump in a new arc to discover. The first couple of movies you try and read as many comic books as possible to make sure the built-in audience, the fan base is going to be satisfied with what you bring to the screen. In terms of where the character is going, that’s up to the director and the writer and Joss [Whedon] and the Russo’s [Anthony and Joe Russo]. That’s always new and that’s what makes these exciting to come back to. If it weren’t new, it would get old, stagnant and the audience would feel it. -Evans

Do you feel that playing Captain America has made you more wholesome?

If that’s even possible. I mean, I’m already a Goddamn boy scout.

Do you think that’s changed you as a person at all?

Sure. I mean, there’s no denying.  Any actor will tell you if you have to live in any head space for an extended period of time you’re going to take some of it home with you.  Now, there’s no way to sound right saying this but you hope that some of the character comes home with you. You hope to see more of yourself, you hope to see more of Steve Rogers in who you are on a day-to-day basis.  So yeah, absolutely. -Evans

Sometimes you get hungry for people. -Evans

Chris Evans breaks in with a question directed at both of them. “Did you ever eat a person?” Chris Hemsworth comes back with “Just this once. Tastes like chicken.” The entire room was in hysterics. Then, it was back to the questions.

 Did you have a favorite superhero growing up?

Superman was mine. It was probably the first of the superhero films, wasn’t it? – Hemsworth

When you’re a kid you kind of like what you’re given to play with. So I had a Spiderman toy and so that was kind of my thing. I never really watched Spiderman comics, but he was my guy. He was battling ninja turtles a lot. -Evans

Dawn from Blogging Mom of 4 asked a follow up question.

If you weren’t Thor or playing Captain America, which superhero would you choose to play.

Captain America? -Hemsworth

To be a ninja turtle? Yes. -Evans

Superman. -Hemsworth

Would anyone here not want to be a ninja turtle? Great calves. -Evans

Who would you play outside of our movies? What character would you love to play?

 To be honest, I’d love to play an Ironman. Steve Rogers is such an internal guy and I just want to make some jokes. Can I just make some jokes? I don’t get any jokes and Ironman is this fun, free, loose guy. It was a lot like when I was doing the Fantastic 4 movies. It’s fun to play someone who wears their emotions on their sleeve. Steve’s not exactly that way. So any other superhero who gets to be a little more sassy I would take. Yea, Cap’s not sassy. -Evans

So, Black Widow? -Hemsworth

Yeah. I’d look good in that black outfit. -Evans

As a group we agreed. And so did Chris Hemsworth. 😉

I had a question from Cory, a 10-year old fan of Thor, regarding young boys having long hair. This young man is a victim of bullying and he asked me if I could find out from Thor if it was okay for boys to have long hair. The response is priceless.

Do you think, as Thor, that it is okay for boys to have long hair?

Of course it is. God, yeah. Absolutely. My dad had long hair for years. In fact, was asked to play for a football team, invited down to a big league in Australian football. It was quite a big opportunity. An the coach said, cool, but you’ve got to cut your hair because he had a ponytail. And he said no and walked away. He gave up that dream and did something else, honestly. -Hemsworth

Wow. -Evans

That really impressed me. I think part of him sort of says, I should have just cut my hair. But, moral point and I think absolutely. God, why not? What is the issue there? I think if anyone is narrow-minded enough to and limited in their thinking to think that is an issue, then they’ve got the problem. And you wait, in a few years’ time that kid will understand that the other kid has larger problems. -Hemsworth

Anytime I see a kid with long hair I’m like, that kid is so much cooler than anything I ever was. -Evans

Girls love long hair so tell him that. He’ll be fine. he’s going to clean up in a few years’ time. That bully who’s teasing him is going to get nothing. – Hemsworth

I can tell you that Chris Hemsworth, as Thor, has helped this young boy tremendously with just a few words. That, my friends, brought tears to my eyes.

Do you wear your costumes anywhere else, or dress as your characters for little children?

Oh sure, sure.  Well, that’s the best thing about these characters, kids love em.  There’s really nothing like seeing a little kid’s face light up, kind of freeze in the moment because I know what that was like. I met Hulk Hogan when I was 10.  And I was like, oh!  Everything just went blank and it’s those little moments that can really impact little kids’ lives. You can incorporate yourself in those little kids.  Whether it’s going to the hospital of kids who are sick or going to a theater where kids are learning to be creative and find themselves.

Any type of environment for you can encourage that is great.  And that’s one of the real perks of playing this role. -Evans

Thor’s Hammer Scene Clip

There’s one scene in the film that involves all the superheroes dressed in normal clothes, having a drink, and trying to lift Thor’s hammer. It’s one of my favorite scenes from the film (you can watch the clip above). So, I jumped in with a question that had been on my mind since watching the film.

How much fun was it to have the scene around Thor’s hammer?

It was a good scene. -Evans

Fine with me because I couldn’t pick it up. It was great. It was good to see us all in normal clothes and not being superheroes. For me personally, Thor can get so stuck being the godly prince, or king, or whatever he is. And, I can’t keep up either. It’s nice to be in civilian clothes. What do these guys do when they’re not saving the world? I think it’s relatable for people in the audience. And that was exciting to read and be a part of. -Hemsworth

Going off of what you’re saying right now. Do you guys hang out after the movie?

This is one of my favorite interactions with Chris #1 and Chris #2, because it really shows the level of their friendship. It was fun to watch unfold.

We try not to. We try to save it for the screen. -Hemsworth

[Joking] I mean, truly sick of everybody. No, absolutely. That’s one of the best parts of this job. Any movie you’re going to get stuck doing a franchise with there’s a lot of variables that could go south. The movies could just be lousy or you could hate the director or you could hate the cast. Luckily, I don’t know how it happened but none of that has happened. We got great movies, love the directors and the cast has become family. So absolutely. Outside of filming we all hang out, we all cause trouble. -Evans

I can’t tell you how many people when I was about to do Avengers said ‘oh, good luck on that set.’ -Hemsworth

Don’t work with Chris Evans. -Evans

The egos, especially him. […] I didn’t see any of that and I still haven’t. As Chris [Evans] said, we got lucky and we do honestly have a great time. -Hemsworth

To Chris Hemsworth: do you ever kind of go into God-speak every so often?

Pay attention. This is hilarious!

 Just when things need to get done. No. Just when the lights off, yeah. Honey. -Hemsworth

Best answer ever. There’s no answer that is going to be better than that one ever. I was going to make a horrible joke about like putting the cap back on the toothpaste. That is so much better. Oh man, I’m not Thor. There it is. That’s the best answer of the day. -Evans

You played so well with Tom Hiddleston, did you feel his absence at all?

Uh, no.  Sick of that guy. [laughing] I mean, when I came into it I remember talking to Tom for we were just doing Thor 2 right before this. And I thought, oh no, they are the sort of Yin and Yang.  And you know, who’s Thor without Loki?  But, it’s a whole different dynamic.  Just as exciting and we said that for the Thor films. -Hemsworth

Tom has impressions of both of you.

Yeah, not very good. -Hemsworth

I don’t think they’re that good.  I saw them and I was like, yeah, right. -Evans

What aspects of Capt. America’s personality are coming from you and what are the most difficult to portray?

I think every character has to come a little bit from you.  No matter who you play and one of the things I do as an actor is try to adjust who I’m speaking to. There’s always going to be whether you plan.  Obviously, if you’re not playing some pedophile or something that like there’s always something.  I do believe there’s always something that you can tap into for every role because you have to make it your own.  You can’t be too far off base because you have to make it something familiar.

I grew up with a kid named Charlie Morris and you can all right that down because he’ll love it.  This was a kid who was an Eagle Scout.  You know what it takes to be an Eagle Scout as a kid? This is a kid who was 18 years old and was going on like his Eagle Scout. He was just the best guy I knew, just a good guy.  A lot of times you kind of draw parallels to what Charlie would do but the trickiest thing is to try to make him likable. You know, he doesn’t joke, he’s not fun.  His not like sassy or loud or anything.

So you try to play this guy and not come across as boring, which is the most dangerous thing about the character.  It’s fun because it’s not me. I’m a very open guy.  I wear my emotions right on my sleeve and this guy is a little more inside himself.  But that’s what makes it a fun challenge and you do draw on parts of yourself.  But, I also lean on Charlie quite a bit, too.  Write that down, Charlie Morris.  He’s a good guy. He just does what’s right. -Evans

When we wrapped up the interview, we all gathered in the corner of the room for the group photos. The picture below was captured just before we all put on our “serious” faces. What do you think? It’s fun when you realize actors and actresses are really human beings. Really talented, sometimes funny, human beings.
