Disclosure: I took part in an all-expense paid (excluding travel) media retreat on Florida’s Space Coast. All opinions are completely my own.
Tuckaway Shores brings back Old Florida
I spent four days on the Space Coast last week and for this native Floridian it was an amazing experience. Beautiful sunrises, kayaking, a visit to Kennedy Space Center, and a relaxing stay at Tuckaway Shores Resort. Be sure to check out all my Sunrise pictures from Florida’s Space Coast.
When I arrived at Tuckaway Shores Resort last week, I was greeted by Jacqui and her staff. It was such a warm welcome and I was immediately treated like family, like they’ve known me forever. That’s how the staff treats every guest, like you are family and they are happy you’re there.
Honestly, by the time I left on Sunday, I was sad to leave. One reason was because of my awesome view, but two because I’d come to know and become friends with Jacqui and Suzanne. But, I missed my family and needed to get home. Maybe I should have just brought the family over to stay an additional day, but we’ll definitely go back soon.
Tuckaway Shores Resort reminds me of the places we used to stay when I was growing up. We always spent time on the beach as a family and sometimes we stayed at smaller places. Small lodging is so much different than the high rises we’ve seen pop up over the past few years. At only three stories, Tuckaway Shores is both quaint and quiet. The rooms are clean and include small toiletries in the tub and by the sink. Oh, and instead of those small bars of soap to wash your hands, you’ll find a normal sized liquid soap by the sink. They thought of everything to make my stay relaxing and stress-free.
What do the rooms look like?
Take a look at the inside of the rooms on both the second and third floors. Each room has an Old Florida decorating style and each room is decorated just a little bit differently than the others. The rooms are open but still cozy and include a bedroom, living room and either a full or Juliet balcony.
What’s there to do at Tuckaway Shores?
Sit on your balcony and relax, visit the local shops in Downtown Historic Melbourne, the Brevard Zoo, Kennedy Space Center, or Port Canaveral. There is so much to do that the weekend is just not enough time to explore all of the Space Coast. Luckily, I live within driving distance so I can take the family for the weekend, get a room at Tuckaway, and spend the day exploring or just playing with the kids on the beach.
The Beach Simply walk through the breezeway and down the stairs and YOU ARE THERE. You are standing on the sand, next to the water. How awesome is that? I’ll tell you that it was amazing to be able to grab my coffee and my camera and walk less than a minute from my room and be standing on the beach. Plus, they offer complimentary use of beach toys and beach chairs to anyone staying on property. The beach was so very quiet and the sand was incredibly soft. I found myself sinking in the sand a few times on my way down to the shore and you just don’t find that in a lot of Florida beaches (you know the ones that allow driving on the shore). Let me reiterate how incredibly peaceful it was to stand next to the water with my coffee and my camera and be by myself. Even when a few other people staying at the resort came down to the beach it was still very quiet and made for a beautiful start to my days on the Space Coast.
The Food How about cooking on The Big Green Egg that they have on property? Each room also has a small kitchenette with a refrigerator, mini stove, sink, cookware, and utensils. There are also local restaurants to check out if you don’t feel like cooking. While on this trip, we ate at both Sand on the Beach and Rusty’s Seafood & Oyster Bar. Both places have a fresh selection of delicious foods. I’ll be posting my reviews of those two places soon. Watch out for those because Rusty’s had the absolute best Key Lime pie I’ve ever tasted.

This looks like it was such a fabulous vacation! I usually go to south FL and will have to look into this destination now! Thanks!
That looks like the perfect place for families to visit. The rooms are big and so much fun nearby!
There was so much to do, Stefanie! Such a great place for families.
Oh wow– this looks beautiful. We didn’t get to go on a vacation this year as I didn’t have enough time off work due to saving for maternity leave!! We are planning one in 2015, I’ll check this place out!
Such a change from the chain hotels, and it was so relaxing, Olivia. It would be a great place for the family.
