February is a special month for me. Actually, special for me and my husband because we were married 14 years ago in February.
Let me start at the beginning. Before I knew he was the love of my life, many, many years ago we worked together. Then we went to the same college after I graduated high school, but we didn’t date until much later. He became my best friend, my “go-to” person, the one I talked to about everything. He remained my best friend for another 5 years before we started dating.
In December of 1998, he proposed to me and we were married in Feburary 1999. It seems like a dream, but honestly, I married my best friend and looking back I’m glad we didn’t wait to get married. I had a month and a half to plan my wedding and Valentine’s Day fell on a Sunday that year, so we got married on the Saturday before.
I wouldn’t have it any other way. I always get questions on why didn’t you get married on Valentine’s Day or why would you want to get married in February. I was in love and it didn’t matter what day I got married, I just knew I wanted to be with him forever. For that reason, I picked the day that worked for us.
Luckily for my husband, he can get one present for two occasions, our anniversary and Valentine’s Day.
