General Hospital
Maybe you’ve been sheltered for the last 50 years, but if not then you know all about the goings-on in the fictional town of Port Charles on ABC’s long-running daytime drama General Hospital. I’m about to take you behind the scenes of one of my favorite shows on TV today.
General Hospital, which celebrated its golden anniversary on April 1, 2013, continues its tradition of passion, intrigue and adventure that takes place in the fictional town of Port Charles in upstate New York. The glamor and excitement of those who have come to find their destinies in this familiar seaport town intertwine with the lives, loves and fortunes of beloved, well-known faces. As always, love, danger and mind blowing plot twists continue to abound on General Hospital with contemporary storylines and unforgettable characters.
General Hospital Set Visit
If you followed along on Twitter and Instagram in March, you would have seen that we made a little stopover at the General Hospital set and got to take a look around. We were lucky enough to meet a few of the GH actors, as well as General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini.
Okay, I need to stop you here – I am a HUGE GH Fan Girl. HUGE! I only say this because I’ve been watching GH since I was a child, alongside my Mother and Grandmother. Yes, I watched as Luke and Laura said their vows the first time. This was a big deal for me. So, know that I got all the details for you as a fan myself. ๐
We spent a few moments with Finola Hughes and Dominic Zamprogna, while we were looking at the props from the GH Set. Some of the props have been around for years. The painting of Laura, the stuffed beaver from Sonny’s mantle, and of course the Ice Princess. I couldn’t stop myself from taking a picture of the In Loving Memory of Jason Morgan. Oh, how I loved Jason. ๐
I’m also a huge fan of Michael Easton, so I got pictures of his flyer, business cards as Silas Clay, and Police badge for John McBain. Take a peek at some of the great props we saw during our visit.

Nurses Ball 2014
This week, the big news is the Nurses Ball. If you’ve been watching General Hospital for any amount of time you know how BIG the Nurses Ball is and that it always includes laughing, dancing, and some very special guests. Of course, the dresses are always something to watch for too! The beautiful dresses above are from the 2013 Nurses Ball.
Port Charles will once again hold the iconic Nurses Ball gala, a fundraiser for HIV and AIDS awareness and research. As the Nurses Ball 2014 begins, several popular Port Charles residents will be noticeably absent from the Red Carpet and stuck at home watching the festivities on TV. Old and new loves will percolate while others find themselves in awkward situations. Amidst all the romantic drama, the never-dull Nurses Ball audience will be entertained with fun performances and sexy surprises. The Nurses Ball episodes air May 8 through May 13.

The Set Experience
After walking around and getting pictures of all the props, we ventured upstairs to the actual set. Or should I say sets? It’s actually set up like a giant warehouse with lights hanging from the ceiling and small “sets” throughout.
Obviously, the sets we’re most familiar with are the actual nurses’ station, the police station, and the interrogation room. So take a peek at the pictures I took of the sets below. Our tour guide for the sets was actually General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini.
While we were walking around and taking pictures, there were a few actors walking around and letting us bend their ear a bit. Some of the actors we spoke with were William deVry and Jeffrey Vincent Parise.
I have to say it was a bit surreal to be standing on the set, in front of the police station squad room and have a chat with the actors, while other actors were off to the side rehearsing for the next scene.
Oh, and I’ll tell you about the fun we had with Emme Rylan before we left. She kind of let us astray and took us to her dressing room to show us what she does when she isn’t working. Believe it or not, she creates and sells things on Etsy. She’s super creative and funny.

Whew! I may have been a little bit fan girly when I got on set, but I think I got in there and got some great pictures for you all. Don’t you agree? Be sure to tune in all this week for the 2014 Nurses Ball. I’ll be watching, but of course, I’m tuned in every weekday for my GH addiction.

Wow, what a great set of photos you took, Sherry! Clearly for you (as a huge GH fan), this was like me hanging with the Captain America crew. ๐ Glad you had such a great time!
I guess you could compare the two experiences, Andrew. It was such an amazing experience!! ๐

Awe, thanks Tiffany. I had such a great time on the set.
