The Story of My Daughter

I’ve been blessed with two children. It didn’t always seem like that was going to be in the plans. My body had different ideas. After fertility treatments I became pregnant with my son, who is now 4. Then, 18 months later I gave birth to my daughter, who is now 3.

My first pregnancy was relatively uneventful, except for the pre-eclampsia that had me hospital bound. My second pregnancy, on the other hand, had me living in the hospital for months. At 32 weeks, I gave birth to my daughter who was only 4 pounds and 6 ounces. She was so tiny and I wasn’t able to hold her. I was in recovery for 12 hours and she was taken to the NICU.

My sweet little girl was in the NICU for 5 weeks. It was the longest five weeks traveling between my home with my son and the hospital with my daughter. Fast forward 3 years…my daughter is strong, healthy and shows no signs that she was ever a premie. She is perfect. For this, I thank all the nurses in the Winnie Palmer NICU department, especially April. She gave me daily updates of everything that happened when I wasn’t there, she made sure my daughter had the best care (as did all the nurses), and made sure I had everything I needed while I was there with my baby.
