About Melissa & Joey on ABC Family
Melissa & Joey is a half-hour comedy that follows Mel, the grown-up former wild child of a political family, who is now a local politician herself. When her sister ends up in prison and her brother-in-law flees after a scandal hits, Mel must take responsibility for her teenaged niece, Lennox, and nephew, Ryder. Help comes in the unlikely form of Joe, who moves in and becomes the family’s manny. The series stars Melissa Joan Hart as Mel, Joey Lawrence as Joe, Taylor Spreitler as Lennox and Nick Robinson as Ryder.
My visit to the Melissa & Joey Set
Just last month I visited the set of ABC Family’s Melissa & Joey. We walked onto the set and we were able to watch some rehearsals starring Melissa Joan Hart, Joey Lawrence, and Taylor Spreitler. In between takes, Joey could be heard singing Christmas carols (it was the week before Christmas).
After watching the rehearsals, and before the interviews started, we had a few moments to snap some pictures of the set. The set itself is bigger than you realize, but the individual “rooms” themselves are smaller than you imagine. Just picture a house without walls, no ceiling, and lots of cameras and you’d be about right.
Let me say, I love the decor, especially the quote on the chalk board above the desk. No detail was left untouched when the set designers set up the Melissa & Joey stage. There are notes on the refrigerator, along with family pictures in the living room, and notes on the desk. Everything was in its place, but still seemed homey.
Let me take you on a tour
The beautiful entrance with the cozy porch swing.
Stairs in the living room, where you always see the characters going up to and down from the bedrooms.
Wouldn’t you love to just snuggle up on the window seat and read a good book? Eh, maybe that’s just me.
Votive candles, picture, and wine on the side table in the living room.
Kitchen going into the living room and the back terrace. Yes, there’s actually a back terrace.
Love the view from the kitchen sink. It’s so clean, orderly, and serene that I think I’d actually like to do their dishes.
I really liked their kitchen. It seems to be the focal point of the home. It’s where a lot of the character interaction takes place, as it is with most families.
And, I was nosy and wanted to see what they had on the refrigerator. I’m not the only one with magnets, pictures, and artwork on my refrigerator, right? We’ll just go with no, I’m not the only one.
This is the dining room with the wall desk, and on the other side is the kitchen.
This is the chalk drawing that I absolutely love.
Now that you’ve seen the set, let me show you a little behind-the-scenes. Take a peek in the wardrobe room for Melissa & Joey. Who wants a closet like this?
So, what did you think? I’ve got so much more coming up this week. I’ll be posting about my interviews with both Melissa and Joey, as well as my set visit to Baby Daddy. I’m super excited to share all of these experiences with you. We had a great time and I hope that comes through in our pictures and interviews.
