Monsters University Movie Review #MonstersUPremiere

Monsters University Opens Today!

I spent three days in California this week for the Monsters University Premiere. After the Monsters University Tailgate Party, we made our way into the El Capitan Theatre for the Monsters University World Premiere. The El Capitan is a beautiful theatre with so much history. The theatre debuted in 1926 as “Hollywood’s first home of spoken drama.”

It was a packed house and once we found our seats, it was time for the entertainment to start. The Monsters University cheerleaders came out to cheer, the lights went down and then the movie started.

Monsters University Review

I was a fan of Monsters, Inc. and knew I’d be a fan of Monsters University. This is actually a prequel to the original film. The characters are hilarious and it has a great underdog storyline. I’m a sucker for underdogs. 😉 Mike Wazowski has always wanted to go to Monsters University Scare School, but once he shows up not everything is smooth sailing. He meets James P. Sullivan (Sully) and they weren’t fast friends, as I would have expected. The story is about how both Mike and Sully make it through school, both good times and bad and how they work to overcome odds to come out friends.

There are so many great actors in this film. You already know that Billy Crystal is the voice for Mike and that John Goodman is the voice for Sully, but there are so many more actors that voice the other monsters. One of my favorites is Nathan Fillion as Johnny Worthington, the president of the most popular fraternity on the Monsters University campus.  Others that stand out are Steve Buscemi as Randy, Sean Hayes as Terri, Dave Foley as Terry and, of course John Ratzenberger as Yeti.

This was such a heartwarming movie about overcoming the odds to follow your dreams and I will definitely be taking my kids to see Monsters University this week.

  1. I have been wanting to see this movie ever since I saw it was due to come out! Unfortunately, I will have to wait a little while to see it as my baby girl is just 8 weeks old. Unless I can find a baby sitter that is 🙂

  2. I can’t wait to see Monsters University. I’m a sucker for animated movies, especially now that I have a little boy to excuse my zeal!
